Banjul is de officiele hoofdstad van Gambia, maar verwacht er niet teveel van. Serrekunda, de grootste stad van Gambia, is wat dat betreft een stuk levendiger want Banjul doet een beetje slaperig en loom aan.
Toch is Banjul ook zeker een bezoekje waard omdat het wel een charmante stad is.
Bezienswaardigheden zijn o.a.: Albert Markt en de haven vanwaar de ferry vertrekt.
Het plaatselijke vliegveld behoort zelfs tot één van de noodlandingsbanen van de NASA, waar eventuele ruimtevluchten kunnen worden naar afgeleidt.
Als je Banjul binnenrijdt, zie je onmiddellijk de imposante, boogvormige toegangspoort, Arch 22. Met een hoogte van 35 meter is dit veruit het hoogste gebouw van het land. Het huisvest het textielmuseum. Met een lift heb je hiervandaan een mooi uitzicht over de stad, de Gambiarivier en de oceaan.

The airport is also one of the emergency landing strips of the NASA, in case a shuttle flight needs to bee diverted.
If you drive into Banjul, you see immediately the impressive Arch 22. The gate is 35 meters tall. It houses a textile museum. Inside you have a beautiful view unto the city, the Gambia-River and the Atlantic Ocean.
On the square in front of the arc stands a statue of the Unknown Soldier, who carries a baby.
