Tanji is een vissersdorpje aan de Atlantische kust, wat hoofdzakelijk leeft van de visvangst. Er is ook een vogelspot gebied op 3km van het dorp en een populair museum "Tanji Village Museum" waarin kunstenaars en ambachtslieden zich bezighouden met traditionele ambachten.
Het vissersdorpje Tanji is met name leuk in de namiddag omdat dan alle vissers weer terug keren met hun vangst (waaronder haaien, zeeschildpadden en barracuda's) en de vrouwen komen helpen om de vis naar het strand te brengen. De vis wordt meteen ter plekke gerookt waardoor er in het hele dorp een zware geur van gerookte vis hangt. Met de ondergaande zon, de rook van de visrokerijen, de pirogues (kano's) op het strand en de prachtige traditionele kleding van de vrouwen ben je verzekerd van een paar mooie foto's. Je ziet er honderden koelkasten op het strand, welke NIET elektrisch aangesloten zijn en waar de vis tijdelijk in wordt bewaard.
Tanji is a town in Gambia, along the Atlantic coast. It is primarily a fishing village, but it also has a popular museum, the "Tanji Village Museum" in which artisans and craftsmen engage in traditional crafts. The Tanji Bird Reserve is located 3 kilometers from the village.
The fishing village of Tanji is especially nice in the afternoon because all fishermen return back with their catch (including sharks, turtles and barracudas) and the women are helping to bring the fish. To the beach The fish is smoked right on the spot causing a heavy smell of smoked fish hangs in the whole village. With the setting sun, the smell of the fish, the pirogues (canoes) on the beach and the beautiful traditional dress of the women you are assured of a few nice pictures. You see hundreds of refrigerators on the beach, which is not electrically connected and where the fish is stored temporarily.
